Ever had that experience when a Bible verse leaps out at you and really makes you sit up and really take notice? That happened to a friend and I recently when were looking at 1 John 2 together. It was fairly early in the morning and we hadn't been wide awake but this certainly woke us up.

The verse is 1 John 2:28. It talks about the return of Jesus and being ready to face that day with confidence. The alternative is shrinking in shame. Facing up to Jesus is an awesome thing. How am I using the life He's given me, the mind He's given me, the money He's given me, and how am I serving the family, and the church he's put me among? Thought provoking stuff!

How can I look forward to that day with confidence? John says by abiding in Christ. Stay with Jesus Christ, the Jesus we know through the testimony of those who saw Him, even touched Him. Continuing to believe in Him, continuing to behave as though we are children of God,  and continuing to belong to His people in the fellowship of truth and love.

Abiding, staying with, drawing our life from, this Jesus God's Christ, our Lord and Saviour. We need to stay closely in touch with daily through His word and in prayer, if we are to look forward to His coming with confidence and not shrink back in fear.
