Getting Married at Christ Church
At Christ Church, we want to help couples make the very best and happiest start in their married life. All couples will normally meet with the clergyman who will conduct their service and we recommend either our own Marriage Preparation course or the Christianity Explored course.
We are happy to help with planning the big day – flowers, music, ushers etc. Fees are charged in accordance with guidelines set down by the Church of England.
No marriage can take place in the Church of England without either calling Banns or obtaining a Common or Special Licence.
If one of the couple is not British, or is normally resident abroad, a licence must be obtained.
Both parties for marriage must be sixteen years or over. Those under eighteen years must have their parents’ consent.
In accordance with the Marriage Measure 2008, a couple may marry in a CofE church if they have one of 7 connections with the parish as shown below:-
That one of you:
has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
was baptised in the parish concerned or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months
OR one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
